TAR Ruling on SSN Registration is Final

No appeal has been lodged against the recent ruling issued by the TAR (Tribunale Amministrativo Regionale) of Tuscany in January 2026, and that the decision is now effective and final. In that decision, the Court held that JSIS beneficiaries who are EU citizens resident in Italy are entitled to obligatory registration (iscrizione obbligatoria) with the Italian National Health Service (SSN) at no cost.

Following this significant milestone, US-IUE intends to coordinate with EUI management and other relevant stakeholders to explore how this positive legal outcome may be applied to all EU citizens at the EUI who are officially resident in Italy.

While other regions are not automatically required to apply it, the decision nevertheless constitutes an important legal precedent at the national level.

This case was supported by the Union and the EUI authorities, to whom we wish to express our sincere gratitude, as well as by our colleague who undertook the responsibility of representing the community throughout the proceedings. We also extend our congratulations to Avv. Michela Velardo on this important achievement.

We look forward to providing further information on the implementation of the ruling and its impact on our community as it becomes available.
