Women’s, Gender, and Queer History in South Tyrol – 15 October 2024

Who makes and who writes history? For a long time, historical events have been viewed through a male-centric lense through which women and queer people’s prospectives were not considered.
In the meantime, “Women’s, gender and queer history” is attracting international attention. The “Women’s, gender and queer history” conference has set itself the goal of exploring the research field in its entirety for the South Tyrolean context. In addition to an international comparative view, the conference offers an initial overview of the still emerging research on the topic from a local
perspective. It aims to provide ideas for how women’s, gender and queer history can also find its way into everyday historical awareness in small-town and rural contexts. The event will also outline the different ways in which the term “minority” is used, which can refer to very differently positioned groups.
