Legal Assistance

The Union USF IUE offers to its members the possibility of legal assistance in dealing with legal problems related to their careers and positions under the Staff Regulations and/or the CEOS, in accordance with the USF IUE Florence Statute Article ‘V. Rights of members ‘.

Such legal assistance consists of an initial consultation with the Union’s lawyer specialising in European Civil Service law. In case further assistance is necessary, it will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

How it works

  • Individual sessions of 1 hour at a cost of €70 each, plus 4% bar association fees and VAT.
  • For a member’s first legal consultation of the year, the US-IUE may cover the financial costs partly or entirely.
  • Costs for the Union arise only where consultations or other legal assistance are provided under the convention agreement.

Eligibility

  • Only work-related cases are accepted; no private or personal matters.
  • Only fully paid-up members of the Union may request a session.
  • Only members who have belonged to the Union for at least six months are entitled to financial support from the Union, except for:
  • Cases considered to be in the Union’s interest;
  • Cases involving newly recruited staff members (e.g. appointment decisions or end-of-probation reports);
  • Other exceptional circumstances.
  • Spouses and orphans of deceased members are also eligible for legal assistance.

The Union Executive Committee shall decide, in each individual case, the nature and extent of such assistance, based on the criteria detailed here. The Executive Committee may also set a ceiling on the Union’s financial support, taking into account its financial situation.

How to apply and procedure

  • Members submit a request for an online meeting with the lawyer to the Union President and/or Vice-President, providing a brief presentation of the case to assess its eligibility. (Legal Consultation Request Form)
  • The USF IUE President/Vice-President collects the cases and members’ names and coordinates a date with the lawyer.
  • The lawyer sends the meeting confirmation directly to the member.
